A heart-wrenching incident has come to light in Georgia, a country located in Eastern Europe. Where, the body of a 35-year-old prisoner in jail was eaten by worms and he died. This incident is of Fulton County Jail in Georgia. This claim has been made in the post-mortem report that came out after the death. In the report, malnutrition and not getting timely treatment are responsible for the death.
According to a Fox News report, 35-year-old Lashan Thomson was arrested in June 2022. He was then taken to the Fulton County Jail. When prison officials discovered that Thomson had schizophrenia, he was placed in a psychiatric wing. Schizophrenia is also called mental disorder in simple language. There is no control over the mind in this disease.

Thomson’s post-mortem report has revealed that behind the prisoner’s death there is serious neglect on the part of the jail administration regarding treatment. It has been told in the report that proper treatment of schizophrenia was not done. Apart from this, dehydration and severe insect infestation have also been mentioned in the report for death. Due to the infection, the insects damaged the body and ate many vital parts.
Lawyer’s allegation- jail officials showed neglect
Responding to the post-mortem report, civil rights lawyer Bren Crump, who has been fighting a case against prison officials after Thomson’s death, said it made it clear that the Fulton County Jail and its staff had shown extreme neglect of Thomson. He said that Thomson’s death was due to the cruelty, inaction and inhuman attitude of the jail staff.

At the same time, Thomson’s lawyer Michael Harper said that making serious allegations against the prison authorities, claimed that no action was taken even after noticing Thomson’s deteriorating health and infection.
After Thomson’s death in prison and then the discussion of the incident internationally, Fulton County Jail decided to transfer more than 600 inmates to another jail in April this year. Along with this, an emergency fund of 5 lakh dollars was also released to increase the facilities of the jail.
