Israel on Sunday released a video of a tunnel dug by Palestinian militants beneath the Gaza Strip’s largest hospital. The central point of the mission is to eliminate Hamas during the riots that have been going on for seven weeks. There is a network of hundreds of kilometers long secret tunnels, bunkers and access shafts throughout the Palestinian territory. Hamas has denied that the tunnels are located in civilian infrastructure such as hospitals.
Giving an update on the operation at Al Shifa hospital in Gaza City, the Israeli army said its engineers had discovered a tunnel 10 meters deep and 55 meters long, up to an explosion-proof door.
According to media reports, this type of door is used by the Hamas terrorist organization to prevent Israeli forces from entering command centers and underground assets belonging to Hamas. A military statement accompanying the video said it showed a narrow path with a concrete roof. The statement did not say what was beyond the door. It said the tunnel was accessed through a shaft discovered in a shed inside Shifa, which contained munitions.
