A large population of India lives in America. Here student visa is available for higher study but if someone gets job in America then he gets green card. You Green Card Can be called a kind of Aadhaar card. The US government issues it. It means officially permanent residence card. But Indians are facing problem since last few months. People are getting delayed in getting green cards.
A senior US official said that people from India, China, Mexico and the Philippines are having trouble getting green cards. Because of this people are also facing problems. He told that there is a certain quota for every country. Green card is issued under the same. Parliament decides to increase or decrease this quota. That’s why officers are bound by the rules. Green card is a residence card given to immigrants. This is a kind of proof that the US government has given you permission to stay here permanently.
Why not get green card sooner?
Under the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Act, 140,000 employment-based Green Cards are issued every year. But there is a screw in this too. Of these, only seven percent of green cards can be received by any one country every year. USCIS Director Douglas Rand says that the annual limit of green cards given to the family of a person living permanently in the US is 2,26,000 for the whole world. But the limit for giving green card on the basis of employment is 1,40,000.
These countries have to wait longer
Rand said this is the reason people from India, China, Mexico and the Philippines have to wait longer for green cards than other countries. He also said that the officers cannot do anything in this as they are bound by the law. If there can be some change in this, then only the US Parliament can do it. Our job is that whenever green cards are available, we use them immediately. Thousands of people of India have been waiting for green card for more than a decade. Apart from this, waiting for visa also has to be done for years.
