According to media reports, on Wednesday, members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Pakistan Parliament, in a meeting with Speaker Noor Alam Khan, told that the fund of Rs 332 billion or $4 billion has remained unchanged in the amount given for the project. Pakistan had raised funds for three projects, including the gas pipeline project. Syed Hussain Tariq, a member of the committee, said that the fund is lying idle and Iran can impose fines if the project is not completed on time.

Pakistan appeals to America for relief
An official of the Pakistan Petroleum Ministry told in a meeting with the Parliament Speaker that Pakistan has informed the US about the gas pipeline project and requested for relief. He told that due to sanctions, Pakistan cannot import gas from Iran. He has also expressed some concerns regarding the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline project.
Iran may impose a fine of $ 18 billion
The members of the committee asked the ministry official that even if Iran imposes a fine, how much would it be? Citing the agreement, the official said that a fine of up to $ 18 billion can be imposed on Pakistan. He also told that he will talk to America about this and demand that either America should allow the project to go ahead or complete the project. The official further said that, if America does not do this, then we will demand the amount of fine from them.
On this, the Speaker of the Parliament suggested to meet him and tell him about the recent situation in Pakistan and ask for time. Significantly, years ago an agreement was signed on the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline. Initially, India was also a part of this pipeline project, but there were problems regarding some points, on which India had left the project.
