PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi
Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the leader of Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, has got a big relief from the Islamabad High Court. The High Court has ordered the release of Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Thursday. Qureshi was arrested last week when violent protests were going on in Islamabad against the arrest of Imran Khan.
On May 9, following the arrest of former PM Imran Khan in the Alak Qadir Trust case, several PTI leaders, including Qureshi, were arrested on charges of inciting violent protests. After hearing the arguments of both the parties during the hearing held on Thursday, the court termed the arrest of the former minister as invalid under 3 MPO (power to arrest and detain suspicious persons).

After the release of Qureshi, the High Court has also ordered the release of Rabia, wife of PTI leader Shahryar Afridi. Rabia was arrested under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance. During the hearing of the case, the IG of Islamabad told the court that Rabia and her husband were involved in the attack on the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
High court reprimanded Islamabad police
However, ignoring the views of the IG, the court reprimanded the Islamabad Police. The court told the police in a stern tone that it would be better if it takes action after consulting its legal team. Along with this, the court had also summoned the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad. The Deputy Commissioner told the court that Afridi and his wife were arrested after receiving information from the Special Branch.
