The government machinery is busy in bringing the city back to normal as soon as possible, but it will take time.

    The plight of the world’s powerful and developed country America and its modern city New York is a topic of discussion in the world. When this situation arises in developing and underdeveloped countries, it is believed that there is no necessary infrastructure. There is lack of sewage system. There are not adequate arrangements for drainage. But, there is everything here, still why is this the condition?

    Know the 5 major reasons for the devastation in New York

    1- Old resources and 2 inches of rain

    Every city has its own fixed capacity. New York City has very modern resources available but these are outdated. This city can handle a maximum rainfall of up to 1.75 inches per hour but this time it rained more than 2 inches per hour. In this way, once the water overflowed, it was not able to drain out and it was raining continuously. The result was that first the basements and underpasses were filled, then the roads became like floods and even the airport and metro had to be closed. Because there was water all around and there was not even a remote possibility of it coming out within an hour or two.

    2- Water overflowed, STP stopped working

    There is a network of about seven and a half thousand miles of pipes in New York City, through which the city’s sewage and dirty water goes to the sewage treatment plant. There is a system to send water from there to the rivers through some canals. Due to excessive rain this entire pipeline network overflowed. On the other hand, the STP also stopped working because the canal built to release water from there was also overflowing. In such a situation the water stopped everywhere. And this is such a problem that nothing much can be done immediately because all the pipes are underground.

    3- Rivers, drains and canals came into back flow mode.

    Another big problem was that all the drainage ways were closed and back flow started occurring from drains to canals. This is the condition where there is excess water at the outlet and also in the water pipes. Drains and drains are also submerged. In such a situation, everyone is ruining the city. All the lower areas were filled with water first and later the upper areas also got affected. The problem of New York can be easily understood through the devastation caused by the slight increase in the water of Yamuna in Delhi this year.

    4- No lesson learned from Hurricane Ida

    This city had to face a similar situation in the month of September 2021 also. Then Hurricane Ida was considered responsible but the local administration did not learn any special lesson from that incident. Some reports were made but no action was taken because it was believed that if there were no stormy rains, this problem would not have arisen. The life of the city does not get disturbed. But after the storm passed and the city returned to normal, no additional measures were taken.

    As a result, the situation of exactly two years ago came to the fore again due to excessive rains. The common urban area appeared to be being destroyed. That was a mode when lessons could be learned.

    5- The disease was known but no treatment was done.

    After Hurricane Ida, the New York City Administration had prepared a report. According to him, the need to revamp the city’s drainage system was emphasized. It was also warned that it may take decades to repair it. This is not a month or two month’s work. Its estimated cost was said to be hundred billion dollars. It is natural that arranging funds takes time, here also the file must be going on.

    American scientists have acknowledged that urban infrastructure will not only have to be upgraded, we will also have to keep pace with climate change. And the whole world will have to do this work together. If we cannot do this then we will have to be prepared for such a disaster. It may appear before us in a more dangerous form than today. This is a warning to mankind. If you don’t take care even now, it will be too late. Governments, local administration and common people will also play a role in this.
