26 November 2008. Hardly any Indian will be able to forget this date. A dreadful game of terror was played on the streets of Mumbai. 160 innocent people lost their lives. Many terrorists, including Kasab, who carried out the attack, have reached the top, but many masterminds of this conspiracy are still away from arrest. David Coleman Headley is rotting in America’s jail, so his best friend Tahuvar Hussain Rana will now be brought to India. Together, these two conspired to terrorize Denmark after Mumbai.
The name of this project was ‘Mickey Mouse Project’. Had this dreadful conspiracy of Headley, Tahuvvar Rana and Ilyas Kashmiri come to fruition, Denmark would have to suffer the same pain as we Indians have suffered. The terrorists hatched this conspiracy on the lines of Mumbai.
Newspaper office was on target
In 2005, Jyllands-Posten, a Danish newspaper, published controversial cartoons of Prophet Muhammad. Because of this there was a lot of resentment in the Muslim community. Al Qaeda, Headley and Rana just wanted to take advantage of this. In October 2008, before the Mumbai terror attack, he started planning a dangerous conspiracy to attack the newspaper’s office. Named ‘The Mickey Mouse Project’. Earlier, attempts were also made to attack the cartoonists and editorial staff who made cartoons.
Conspiracy to attack like Mumbai
Jacob Shroff, chief of the Danish intelligence agency, had told that the kind of conspiracy that was hatched at the newspaper office in Copenhagen, was later hatched for the Mumbai attack in 2008. Under the guise of the organization ‘First World Immigration’, Headley started recce of different offices of this Danish newspaper. He said that he wants to open his office here and wants to advertise for it. A conversation started between Headley and Rana through codewords on email.
Preparations were made for another attack on India
According to the FBI, this attack in Denmark was stopped because the terrorists wanted to carry out another attack on India. After the Mumbai attack in 2008, the morale of all the terrorists including Headley had increased a bit. Headley conspired with Al Qaeda, Ilyas Kashmiri and his handlers in Pakistan to plan another attack on India. This attack was to happen around July-August 2009. But in the meanwhile the news of Kashmiri’s death came and later contact with him was cut off despite the information that he was alive.

Seeing the dream of terrorist attack in India not being fulfilled, Headley took command of the conspiracy to attack in Denmark. He wanted to attack several offices at once. He was repeatedly visiting Pakistan and Denmark. In July 2009, Headley also visited Copenhagen and other places in Europe. Talking to Rana in code word, Headley said, ‘If the doctor (Ilyas Kashmiri) and his companions do not help, he himself will carry out the operation.’
But the intelligence agencies got suspicious because of his frequent visits to Pakistan. He was interrogated in Georgia in August 2009. Two months later, on October 9, he was arrested at the Chicago airport. He was in the mood to go to Pakistan. A lot of documents were found from him related to the conspiracy to attack the newspaper office in Denmark.
