Amidst the election turmoil in Pakistan, Senior Vice President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sher Afzal Marwat has made it clear that Barrister Gauhar Khan will be a contender for the post of President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. Let us tell you that Imran Khan has chosen Barrister Gauhar as his successor for PTI leadership because Imran Khan is no longer the Chairman of PTI.
General elections are to be held in Pakistan on February 8. The Election Commission of Pakistan has told Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf that if PTI wants to retain its election symbol ‘Balla’ then it will have to hold elections within the party within the time limit of 20 days. Let us tell you that Imran Khan has decided to step down from the post of president due to legal matters. Imran Khan is currently lodged in Adiala Jail of Rawalpindi.
However, after the announcement of Marwat, there was confusion within the party when PTI claimed that Imran Khan had no plans to step down from his post. In a statement issued on social media platform X, PTI has refuted ‘speculations’ on the election of the new party president.

Who is Barrister Gauhar Khan?
Barrister Gauhar Khan, resident of Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is a lawyer of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He studied law from the University of Wolverhampton, UK and holds an LLM degree from the Washington School of Law, USA. Before joining PTI, he was associated with the Pakistan Peoples Party. Barrister Gauhar Ali Khan contested the 2008 general election from his hometown district Buner NA-28 (currently NA-09) on a Pakistan Peoples Party ticket. However, he lost that election by about two thousand votes and finished third.
