There was a blackout in Bangladesh on Tuesday across the country. This happened due to the failure of the National Power Grid. The officials gave this information. Bangladesh Power Development Board officials said that somewhere in the eastern part of the country, there was a power transmission failure. Electricity department spokesman Shamim Hasan said all power plants in the capital Dhaka and other major cities were shut down and power was cut.
He said engineers are trying to find out where and why the fault occurred and it could take hours to restore the system. There was an outcry due to the power failure in the entire country facing economic crisis. The work in government and private companies came to a complete standstill.
The government of Bangladesh has closed all diesel-powered power plants. Diesel-powered power plants produce about 6 percent of Bangladesh’s electricity generation, so their closure could cut production by up to 1500 MW. Recently, people of the garment sector are very worried about this. Recently, Farooq Hasanka, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association had said that the situation is very serious. Textile factories are now without electricity for about 4 to 10 hours a day.
Bangladesh is the world’s second largest garment exporter after China and earns more than 80 per cent of its total foreign exchange every year from garment product exports. A report by the Asian Development Bank said that Bangladesh’s economic growth in the current fiscal will slow to 6.6 per cent from its previous forecast of 7.1 per cent. The reason behind the slowdown in the report has been cited as weak export demand, domestic manufacturing.
