If you want to buy a new fridge, then hurry up, maybe by the coming summer, their prices will increase. The reason for this is the change in the rules of ‘star rating’ of refrigerators. Yes, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power has implemented the revised rules of star rating from January 1.
Due to these changes in the rules, the prices of refrigerators may increase by up to 5 percent. That is, a fridge of Rs 10,000 can be worth Rs 10,500 in the coming time.
What has changed in ‘Star Rating’?
BEE gives a star rating to electronic devices based on their energy efficiency. A 5-star rating means the least power consuming device. Now BEE has made its labeling process stricter than before.
On the other hand, separate star labeling has been made mandatory for freezer and refrigerator provisioning units in frost free model refrigerators. In this, along with energy efficiency, storage capacity will also have to be shown separately. This is sure to make the fridges of some companies expensive.
Will the fridges of these companies be expensive?
After the change in these rules of BEE, home appliance companies like Godrej Appliances, Haier and Panasonic have indicated to increase the price of fridge by 2 to 5 percent in the coming days.
According to a PTI news, Kamal Nandi, Business Head and Executive Vice President of Godrej Appliances, says that according to the new rules of star rating, we will have to do separate labeling of the fridge unit and the freezer unit inside it. In such a situation, some cost of the company increases due to the implementation of energy efficiency rules. That’s why the price of fridge can increase by 2 to 3 percent. It depends on different model and star rating.
Will know how much goods will come
According to the star rating system currently in place in the country, there is a single rating for the refrigerator unit. Not only this, the liter rating of the goods to be filled in it is also the same, which will now have to be shown separately as part of the freezer and the rest of the fridge.
Kamal Nandi explained that for example, the space between the door and the shelf cannot be used and therefore should not be counted. This will help the customer to make the right decision while buying a refrigerator as they will know exactly how much storage space they will get.
Satish NS, President of Haier Appliances India, said that after these new rules, the compressor in some refrigerators will have to be reinstalled or replaced. Due to this, the price can definitely increase by 2 to 4 percent. Its burden will fall on the customers. On the other hand, Panasonic Marketing India Managing Director Fumiyasu Fujimori said that the prices of refrigerators may increase by up to 5 percent if the revised rules of BEE come into effect. The company will try to take most of the burden of cost increase on its own.
