However, even in 2023, there is a problem of gender gap in salary. This is such a big problem that most people are not aware of it. Meta, which owns big social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, discriminates against women in giving salary. According to media reports, Meta gives less salary and bonus to women employees as compared to male employees.
Women get less salary than men
Whether as hourly workers or full-time employees, female employees working for META in the UK or Ireland are paid less than men. Reports also say that there are 3,000 women working in the Meta office in Ireland and 5,000 women in the UK. This is about 10 percent of its global workforce.
Discrimination even in bonus
In accordance with the law of the land, Meta Ireland’s Gender Pay Report was released in December 2022. Last year, women were reportedly paid 15.7 per cent less than their male counterparts in the company. Talking about the average bonus, this difference is even more as women in the country get 43.3 per cent less bonus than men.
Bad situation in UK too
Talking about Britain, there is less difference in salary as compared to Ireland. However, discrimination against women exists here too. According to a 2022 report citing 2021 pay data, it is found that women are paid 2.1 per cent less than their male counterparts in the UK. The bonus gap is also huge here, as women get 34.8 per cent less bonus than men.
