5G in India: 5G services may start in India soon. The Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi has approved the auction of 5G spectrum today (June 15). Under this, bidding will be done for 72097.85 MHz spectrum by the end of July next month. According to the notification issued by the government, the validity of spectrum will be 20 years, but after 10 years, if a telecom company wants to return the spectrum, then it can do so.

10 times faster than 4G

Under the auction, 72097.85 MHz spectrum will be kept with a validity of 20 years. The auctions will be held in multiple frequency bands low (600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz), mid (3300 MHz) and high (26 GHz). According to estimates, mid and high band spectrum will be used by telecom companies to provide services based on 5G technology, through which the speed and capacity will be about 10 times more than 4G services.

Big financial relief to telecom companies

For the first time, companies will not have to pay for this. Telecom companies will be able to pay for spectrum in 20 equal installments but all installments will have to be paid in advance at the beginning of every year. Apart from this, telecom companies have also been given the option to return the spectrum after ten years. After returning they will not have to pay any money for the remaining years.

Modi cabinet has taken an important decision regarding private captive networks. The government has approved the development and setting up of private captive networks. This will encourage the use of machine-to-machine communications, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) in auto, health, agriculture, energy and other sectors. Private captive networks mean such telecom networks which will be for private use.
