Date – of the start of the tournament. WPL, which is going to be organized for the first time, is going to start from March 4 and the first season of the tournament will be played for 23 days. Not only this, the first match of the first season will be played between the two most expensive franchises of the league, Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
According to the report of Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has made preparations for the start of the much-awaited tournament from Saturday, March 4. A total of 22 matches will be played in the first season of the tournament starting with five teams. In which league round matches will be played till March 21.
Tournament only in Mumbai
On the one hand, where all the 10 teams will again compete in the cities of IPL and the tournament will again return to the ‘home and away’ format, on the contrary, in the first season of WPL, all the matches are being limited to Mumbai only. It has been told in the report that the entire season will be played only at the Cricket Club of India i.e. Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
The first match of the league will be held at DY Patil Stadium, while the second match is likely to be held at Brabourne on 5 March. Mumbai’s third ground, the Wankhede Stadium, will not be used for the India-Australia ODI match and the IPL.
This will be the format of the tournament
Talking about the format of the tournament, like IPL, each team will play two matches each against the rest of the teams. However, unlike IPL, in this tournament only one eliminator match will be played before the final in the playoff round. The team at the top of the points table after the group round will get a direct entry into the final, while the second and third placed teams will play an eliminator for the final. The eliminator match will be played on March 24, while the final of the first season will be held on March 26 at the DY Patil Stadium.
