The great West Indies fast bowler Curtly Ambrose was known for his lethal bowling as well as his aggressive attitude. There are many examples of this. It was not easy to face them. He not only used to trouble with the ball, but also did not miss to mess with the players. It has happened many times when Ambrose clashed with the players of his opposition team. One such case is today i.e. January 16, when in the first final of the World Series played in 1993, Ambrose became enraged at the words of the Australian player. And then he wreaked havoc with his bowling.
Australia was defeated in this match. Batting first, West Indies scored 239 runs losing eight wickets. The Australian team was stacked on 214 runs. Right-arm fast bowler Ambrose took five wickets for 32 runs in 9.3 overs.
Dean Jones made me angry
In this match, former Australia batsman Dean Jones made Ambrose angry. West Indies captain Richie Richardson had a delayed ball to Ambrose. He started the bowling with Ian Bishop and Phil Simmons. Ambrose came as the first change. Ambrose gave his team the first success by dismissing David Boon. Then Jones came to bat and took guard. But then called the umpire and said something. After this the umpire asked Ambrose to remove his wristband. Ambrose was wearing a white wristband in both hands. Jones wanted Ambrose to take off the right wristband. Ambrose was angry on this and he showed his displeasure in bowling. He bowled the very next ball very fast which was dropped by Jones.
Ambrose had troubled Jones a lot but he could not take his wicket. Apart from Boon, Ambrose took the wickets of Mark Taylor, Ian Healy, Craig McDermott, Tony Dodmade in this match. This case is still remembered in cricket history. Ambrose’s anger became the bane of Australia in that match.
Because of this the decision was taken
Jones later explained why he asked Ambrose to take off the wristband. Jones said that Ambrose wears white wristbands in ODIs and red wristbands in Tests, due to which there is a problem in seeing the ball when he leaves the ball while bowling. After talking to Bobby Simpson and captain Allan Border, Jones decided that he would ask Ambrose to remove the wristband.
