Making and breaking of world records in cricket is not a new thing. But, this world record related to Test cricket is such that it has been made 5 times in the last 44 years. Means it has been equal on 5 occasions. This time this feat has been done by a 24-year-old player, who was playing in the Test match being played between West Indies and South Africa in Centurion.
We are talking about West Indies wicketkeeper Joshua da Silva, who made this big record of Test cricket by standing behind the wicket wearing gloves in his hands. Joshua is the 5th player to equal this world record. At the same time, after 23 years, he is the second player to do so. Earlier in the year 2000, West Indian wicketkeeper Ridley Jacobs had made this record.
Now you must be thinking that which is the world record, which has been equaled by Joshua da Silva. So tell that the world record has been made by Joshua behind the wicket of hunting 7 in an inning of Test. First of all, Pakistan’s Wasim Bari made this record against New Zealand in the year 1979. A year later, in 1980, Bob Taylor of England equaled this record. In 1991, New Zealand’s Ian Smith equaled this world record, while in the year 2000, Ridley Jacobs took 7 victims in a Test inning.
Joshua, who did wonders behind the wicket, however, could not do anything big in front of the wicket. She could score only 4 runs in the first innings of the Centurion Test. Whereas, in the second innings he scored 17 runs.
Joshua equals the world record in wicketkeeping. But his failure in front of the wicket also became the reason for West Indies’ defeat in Centurion. West Indies lost the Centurion Test against New Zealand by 87 runs. (All photos: AFP)
