The performance of Sri Lankan cricket team in the ODI World Cup has not been good. But no one had imagined the condition that this team faced in front of India. The Sri Lankan bowlers gave away a lot of runs in this match and when it came to the batsmen of the Sri Lankan team, the team collapsed for just 55 runs. India defeated the 1996 world champions by 302 runs. Now after this defeat there is an outcry in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board is very disappointed with this defeat and has decided to take strict action. The board has sought clarification from the coaching staff and selectors after the defeat by the Indian team.
If we look at the performance of Sri Lanka in the World Cup, this team has played seven matches so far, out of which it has faced defeat in five. Apart from India, this team lost to South Africa, Australia and Pakistan. As far as Afghanistan also defeated this team. Now it has two more matches left to play against Bangladesh and New Zealand and the team would like to play better in these.
Board asked for clarification
After the defeat to the Indian team, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has issued a statement in which it is written that the overall performance of the team and the defeat has raised many questions on the team’s performance and strategies. The board has said that although it does not interfere in the performance of the team and the work of the coaches, it believes in transparency, accountability and resolving important issues properly. SLC has given four points on which the coaching staff and selectors will have to answer, these include strategy and preparation, team selection, performance of players, post-match analysis.
Many may lose their jobs
Usually it is seen that after such performance, many changes take place in the team and coaching staff. From the statement issued by SLC and seeking clarification, it seems that it is very strict and if it does not get satisfactory answers then the support staff, selectors and many players may be hit by lightning. This has already been seen. However, the Sri Lankan team has also been struggling with injuries during this period. The team’s regular captain Dasun Shanaka was out of the tournament due to injury. In the middle of the tournament, Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara got injured and were ruled out.
