The Indian cricket team is currently playing its eighth match of the ODI World Cup-2023 against South Africa at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. Till now Team India has not lost in this tournament. It is expected that Team India will win in this match also. India won the toss in this match and decided to bat first. India has also made a strong start in this match. Captain Rohit Sharma along with Shubman Gill gave a strong start to the team. But Rohit could not complete his half-century. Gill also could not complete his half-century. But everyone was surprised to see the ball on which Gill was out.
Rohit and Gill gave a strong start to Team India. Both of them made a fast start and scored runs in explosive fashion. On the fifth ball of the sixth over, Rohit was caught by Temba Bavuma on the ball of Kagiso Rabada. Rohit and Gill made a partnership of 62 runs for the first wicket. Rohit scored 40 runs in 24 balls which included six fours and two sixes.
The Indian team was scoring runs rapidly. The first powerplay was over and in the 11th over, Temba Bavuma gave the ball to his best spinner Keshav Maharaj. Maharaj fulfilled the captain’s expectations and dismissed Gill on the third ball of his over. But the way Maharaj dismissed Gill surprised everyone. Maharaj bowled the ball on the line of leg stump and the ball drifted and hit the leg stump. The ball took a slight turn which Gill could not understand.
He tried to play it on the on side but missed and also lost his balance. The ball landed just above the bails. After this the South African team started celebrating. But the umpire confirmed where the ball hit and after confirming, Gill had to return to the pavilion. Gill scored 23 runs on 24 balls. His innings included four fours and one six.
Missed a century in Mumbai
Team India played its last match against Sri Lanka in Mumbai and India had won brilliantly in this match. Gill played a brilliant innings in that match, but missed a century. Gill played an innings of 92 runs in this match. Gill has scored only two half-centuries so far in this World Cup.
