His father also wanted to become a cricketer but could not succeed in it, so he thought of making his son Gill a cricketer and was successful in it. He had already sensed his son’s interest and aptitude for cricket, and decided to send him to the academy. Then he started living on rent with his family near the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium.
Gill made his List A debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the 2016–17 season (25 February 2017). On 17 November, he made his debut in first class cricket. Gill went on climbing the ladder of success on his own. Gill made his international debut (ODI) on 31 January 2019, playing against New Zealand. After this he made his debut in Test (2020) and then T20 (2023).
