New Delhi. Tokyo Olympics, which the whole of India will remember for years. India had won maximum 7 medals in Tokyo. In this Olympics, India won gold in athletics for the first time in history. Neeraj Chopra had created history. London Olympics was our best before Tokyo, where India won 6 medals, but in Tokyo India crossed this number. The journey of Indian players to reach the top continues. India won 7 medals in 6 different sports including Wrestling, Men’s Hockey, Badminton, Athletics in Tokyo Olympics. 7 players made India proud in different sports, but despite this one thing was common in all of them and that is TOPS i.e. Target Olympic Podium Scheme.

Indian players are showing their mettle in the world today, they are challenging even in those sports, in which once upon a time the Indian challenge was taken lightly, but today the world giants are in awe of the Indian challenge. TOPS scheme started in 2014
TOPS is a revolutionary scheme of PM Narendra Modi’s government, which was started in 2014. After the introduction of this scheme, the life of the athletes changed. This scheme freed Indian players from 4 tensions like financial, better facilities, sporting goods and monthly allowance. Through this scheme, apart from providing financial help to the players, the central government is also fulfilling the rest of the requirement to reach the podium in the Olympics.
Players in Core and Development
Through TOPS, players get a chance to train with the best coaches with world class facilities. Players also get sports related items for practice. The TOPS Elite Athletes Committee selects sportspersons and para athletes for this scheme. At present it has 270 players, out of which 101 are core and 169 are in development. TOPS also has a Mission Olympic Cell to give more attention to the selected players, to help them.

Players reached the Olympic podium
Many players of Topps played sting all over the world. PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik won medals in 2016 Rio Olympics after joining this scheme. In the 2016 Paralympic Games, TOPS athletes won 2 gold, one silver and one bronze medal. Toppers Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu, PV Sindhu, Lovlina Boregohan, Bajrang Punia created history in the Tokyo Olympics.
