Neeraj Chopra created history by winning the gold medal in the javelin throw at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest on Sunday. Neeraj has become the first Indian to win gold in the 40-year history of the World Championships. Neeraj won gold by throwing a javelin of 88.17 meters in the final of the World Championship held in Budapest on Sunday.
Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won the silver with a throw of 87.82m, while Jakub Wadlech of the Czech Republic won the bronze with a throw of 86.67m. India’s Kishor Jena finished fifth with a throw of 84.77m. While DP Manu finished sixth with a throw of 84.14m.
Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian to win gold in the World Championship
For the first time in this championship being held since 1983, an Indian has won the gold medal. Overall, this is India’s third medal in the World Championship. Last year, Neeraj won the silver medal in this championship, while long jumper Anju Bobby George won the bronze medal in the 2003 World Championship 20 years ago.
Neeraj Chopra, who won India’s first gold in athletics at the Olympics in 2020, also became the first Indian athlete to win gold at the Olympics and World Championships. Apart from Neeraj’s gold in the Olympics held since 1900, India has not won any medal in track and field events.
