New Delhi: The IPL 2023 season is moving towards its final stage. The playoff race between the teams has become even tighter. At present, everyone’s attention is focused only on its mathematics. There is little discussion about international cricket. Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri, the former coach of the Indian team, has started such a debate, which can intensify after the IPL. Former Team India coach Shastri, however, raised the issue even before the IPL was over. Before the match between Mumbai and Gujarat, Shastri gave his opinion on the captaincy while talking about the future of Team India. Talking in a program of ESPN-Cricinfo, Shastri said that now only Hardik Pandya should be handed over the command of Team India in T20.
Will the 2007 formula be seen again?
Since the T20 World Cup last year, Hardik Pandya has been representing Team India in the T20 format as a temporary captain. Shastri believes that this should be the way forward and he should captain Team India for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The former Indian coach believes that like the 2007 T20 World Cup 16 years ago, Team India will field new players in 2024 as well.
Hardik Pandya captained at any level for the first time in the last season of IPL. Under his leadership, Gujarat Titans won the title in their debut season itself. On the other hand, in the current season also, Gujarat’s performance has been excellent and the team has won 8 out of 11 matches and remains in the first place.
