It is difficult for BCCI to find sponsor for Team India, the board reduced the base price
The Board of Control for India ie BCCI is feeling a lot of pressure due to not getting a sponsor for Team India. However, after the withdrawal of sponsorship by Byju’s, Paytm and MPL, the difficulties of the Indian board have increased considerably. Apart from this, the BCCI has also reduced the sponsor’s amount for Team India and has reduced it to around 350 crores for the sponsor. At the same time, BCCI had recovered around 287 crores from Byju’s and apart from this, the ed-tech company has extended the deal till 2023 by paying around Rs 450 crores.
Let us tell you that according to a report in Economic Times, the BCCI has fixed a base price of Rs 3 crore per match for bilateral matches with India. The base price for International Cricket Council (ICC) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) tournaments has been kept at Rs 1 crore per match. However, this is a huge drop in the base price compared to what BCCI paid BYJU’S in 2018 to secure sponsorship rights. Byju’s paid Rs 5.07 crore per match in India and Rs 1.56 crore per match. BCCI always sets the base price higher than the final price. But this is a change in stance in view of the slowdown in the market.

Economic Times quoted a source as saying that “BCCI has set a realistic base price for the main sponsor rights. The advertising market is tough, and new-age sponsors who were spending huge sums on cricket have seen their marketing budgets drastically cut due to the funding winter. The Indian board had issued a tender for the front jersey sponsorship on 14 June. However, the tender document is available for purchase till June 26, 2023.
BCCI did a deal with adidas
It is worth mentioning that BCCI has recently roped in Adidas as the kit sponsor for a Rs 250 crore deal. Adidas will pay Rs 75 lakh per match for five years. BCCI will also get Rs 10 crore per year as royalty on merchandising.
