IPL 2023: The four-time Indian Premier League champion team Chennai Super Kings wants to win the IPL title for the fifth time under the umbrella of MS Dhoni. In an episode of Geo Cinema’s show My Time with Heroes titled “My Time with Dhoni ft Uthappa”, Uthappa said about Dhoni that we always used to eat together. We had a group Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan, RP Singh, Piyush Chawla, Munaf Patel, MS Dhoni and me. We used to order dal makhani, butter chicken, jeera aloo, gobi and rotis. But MS is a very rigid person when it comes to food. He used to eat butter chicken but without the chicken, only with gravy! When he eats chicken, he does not eat rotis. He is quite weird when it comes to food”.
During that, Uthappa further elaborated on why Dhoni has been such a remarkable success as a captain for both India and CSK. He said that “Dhoni has sharp instincts and he backs his instincts. That’s why he has been such a successful captain. Whether it is victory or defeat, he himself takes responsibility for every result. On the other hand, if someone takes a wrong decision because of his tendency, then he cannot sleep for a few days and he starts thinking too much. If a good captain’s instincts are good 4 or 5 times out of 10, Dhoni’s instincts are good 8 or 9 times”.
Uthappa also spoke about other qualities of Dhoni that “MS is a very open person and he does not hesitate to speak the truth even if it hurts you. Apart from this, former cricketer Athappa has shared his first conversation with Dhoni after the IPL auction a few years ago. “I remember when I was signed by CSK in the auction and then they called me and said I am not sure if you will get a chance to play as the season is far away and I have not thought about it. If you end up playing, I’ll let you know. Till now I had enjoyed 13 successful years in IPL. Still he told me what he had to do. I still appreciate it very much”.
Apart from this, about his time in CSK in the presence of Dhoni, Uthappa said that “In the first season, I noticed that everyone in the team called him Mahi Bhai. I went up to him and asked if I should also call him Mahi Bhai. He said call me whatever you want, it doesn’t matter and please call me Mahi only.
