After the first T20 (IND vs WI T20 Series) match between India and West Indies, the ICC has fined both the teams. India suffered a four-run defeat in the first T20 match (IND vs WI) played at the Brian Lara Stadium. The West Indies team will have to face this punishment despite winning the match. Actually, both the teams made a mistake in this match, due to which the ICC has taken this decision. India (Team India) and West Indies (West Indies) will have to pay this fine from the match fees due to the slow over rate.
The International Cricket Council has imposed a fine of five percent of the match fee on the Indian team and 10 percent of the match fee on the West Indies team for slow overs. In this match, both the teams did not bowl overs within the stipulated time limit. In the series of five T20 matches, the Indian team fell one over short and the West Indies team two overs short of the target. Indian captain Hardik Pandya and West Indies captain Rovman Powell were upheld by match referee Richie Richardson for slow over-rate.
On the other hand, talking about the first match of the series, the Indian team fell short of the target, due to which they had to face defeat. Captain Hardik Pandya has told the reason for this defeat is to lose early wickets. Hardik scored 19 runs in 19 balls in this match. While West Indies captain Rovman Powell played a brilliant knock of 48 runs, though he missed out on completing his half-century. Apart from this, Tilak Verma, who was debuting for the Indian team, played an inning of 39 runs in 22 balls. The next match is to be played on Saturday, in which the Indian team will aim to make a comeback.
