Former West Indies player Courtney Walsh believes that Virat Kohli is next only to Sachin Tendulkar among the great batsmen. He believes that Virat Kohli can be counted among the top great cricketers of the world. Virat is playing his 500th international match. In the second Test match of India vs West Indies (IND vs WI), he is just 13 runs away from his century, completing which he will become the first cricketer in the world to score a century in the 500th match.
Former West Indies fast bowler Walsh said that “As a great Indian player, I would put Kohli just behind Sachin. I will look at Brian Lara, Viv Richards from West Indies perspective. I have also played with Panting and Steve Waugh in my time. I would put Kohli among the top four-five greatest players I have seen.”
Walsh has praised Virat Kohli fiercely. He also compared Kohli to former Pakistan player Javed Miandad and England’s Graham Cooch. Speaking on Geo Cinema, Walsh said that “I haven’t played as many matches with Grahame Cook of England and Javed Miandad of Pakistan, but the way he can play for his wicket, I would say exactly the same about Virat.”
Walsh recalled his conversation with Kohli and said that “Kohli is passionate about the game, he wants to make a mark in the game. I remember speaking to him when I was the West Indies selector and he was the captain. We talked, you can tell he wants to be the best. He was willing to take advice from anyone who would help him. He wants to be in top-3, top-5 in everything.
Virat Kohli showed great composure on the first day of the second Test match. Staying at the crease, Virat Kohli also hit brilliant shots, in which his signature shot cover drive was also seen. Virat is just a few runs away from his century. He last scored a century in Tests on an overseas pitch in December 2018.
