Team India’s one month long tour is going to start from Sunday 10th December. This tour of all three formats will start with the T20 series. The first match will be played in Durban but just 48 hours before that, a major disaster struck South Africa. One of its players was out of the series, who has been causing huge losses to Team India. Cricket South Africa announced on Friday 8 December that right-arm fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the T20 series.
Cricket South Africa issued a press release informing about Ngidi’s exit from the series. According to this, Ngidi suffered a sprain in his left ankle, due to which he will not be able to play in this series. Ngidi had earlier suffered a leg injury during the World Cup but he was seen playing even after this. However, he could not play in the semi-final match against Australia.
Out of T20, test also in danger
Cricket South Africa has told that this 27 year old pacer will now undergo rehabilitation process under the supervision of the medical team so that he can make a full recovery as soon as possible. Ngidi was included in the team for the first and second matches of the T20 series. Apart from this, he was also selected for a practice match of 4 days from 14 to 17 December to prepare for the Test series. Now he will not be able to play in this also.
There is tension for South Africa because it seems difficult for Ngidi to play in the 2-match Test series. The test series will start from 26th December in Cape Town.
This player got the place
The South African board has included medium pacer Buron Hendricks in the squad for the T20 series in place of Ngidi. Hendricks has played only 19 T20 matches so far, but has 25 wickets in his name. Hendricks has played 2 T20 matches against India but both came after a gap of several years. He played two T20 matches against India in 2014 and 2019. Coincidentally, in both the matches he made Rohit Sharma his victim. However, this time Rohit is not a part of the T20 series.
