Shikhar Dhawan He may not be getting much opportunities to play in Team India in the passing years of his career, but he is still the life of the Indian cricket team in the ODI format. No one goes to an ODI series in which he is not a part of the team. So obviously when everyone’s attention is on the T20 World Cup, Dhawan’s entire focus is on keeping himself fit for at least the next one year, so that he can play the 2023 World Cup.
Dhawan was out of Team India in the first Test and then the T20 format. They were replaced by new and young players. Despite this, there is no doubt about his place in Team India in the ODI format and he is an important part of the team’s strategies in this format. In such a situation, he is busy preparing himself for the World Cup to be held on home soil next year.
Dhawan’s target – 2023 World Cup
This is the reason why the ODI series between India and South Africa, which is being held just before the T20 World Cup, may not be getting much attention, it is very important for Dhawan. Talking about his career in Dhawan at a press conference on Wednesday, 5 October, he said, I am lucky to have such a wonderful career. Whenever I get a chance, I share my knowledge with the youth.
Not only this, the left-handed batsman, who has scored 6647 runs in 158 ODIs, also told about his target for the coming time and said,
Now I have a new responsibility but I find opportunities in challenges and enjoy it. My target is 2023 World Cup. I want to keep myself fit and stay positive.
Commanding Team India
Dhawan may be playing the ODI format, but in this he is getting a chance to lead the team occasionally. He has also become the captain of the team in the series against South Africa, as Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are going for the T20 World Cup with Team India and are not part of this series. Dhawan had earlier captained Team India on Sri Lanka and West Indies tours as well.
