New Delhi: Even before the start of the IPL 2023 season, there was only one question on everyone’s lips – what’s new this time? This question is asked every season. This time also obviously it had to happen and BCCI has done a lot of new things to make this season interesting. The most talked about in this is the ‘Impact Player’ rule. The first sight of this rule was also seen in the very first match of the season and Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s team became the first team to use it. Chennai Super Kingswho fielded fast bowler Tushar Deshpande as an impact player.
Impact player is a similar rule, as there are substitutes in football. The only difference is that the rule of impact player can apply to only one player in any match. Under this, each team will tell the names of 5 more players along with the playing XI and then at any time in the match, that player can be replaced by the playing XI player. This rule was implemented by BCCI for the first time in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament last year and from this season it has been entered in IPL as well.

Entry of Tushar Deshpande
CSK got the first chance to use this rule. CSK started with the bat in the first match of the new season against defending champions Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. The team scored a strong score of 178 runs and in such a situation it did not need an impact player in batting. Then when the team came down for bowling, Chennai decided to field pacer Tushar Deshpande. For this, CSK replaced Tushar with their batsman Ambati Rayudu, who will not be seen in any other role in the match after this.

Bad start for Deshpande
However, the start of Tushar Deshpande, who played only 7 matches in IPL, was not good. He was handed the ball in the second over of the innings and his very first ball was sent by Wriddhiman Saha for 6 runs. Saha again hit a four on the very next ball. In the same over, he also got a four at the hands of Shubman Gill. Overall, Gujarat scored 15 runs in their first over. Deshpande could not make any impact even in his next over. He bowled a no ball, on which Shubman Gill sent the free hit for 6 runs.
