A total of 10 venues have been announced for the 48 matches of the ICC World Cup to be played over 46 days. In which Eden Gardens benefited the most.
ICC has released the complete schedule of the World Cup 2023 (ICC World Cup 2023 Schedule). The ICC and the BCCI have shared a list of venues and schedules for the 50-over World Cup, starting on October 5. A total of 10 venues have been announced for the 48 matches to be played over 46 days. The 10 venues that have hosted the prestigious tournament are Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamshala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Actually, the tournament will start and end at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, out of 10 match venues, Kolkata’s Eden Gardens Stadium is the most profitable in this matter.
The Eden Gardens will host the Indian team at least once and the Pakistan team for at least two matches when they face South Africa on 5 November. The Pakistan team will play Bangladesh on 31 October and England on 12 November. It is worth mentioning that if both the teams qualify for the semi-finals, then both the rivals India and Pakistan will face each other for the second time in the tournament in Kolkata. The reason behind the two teams clashing with each other at the Eden Gardens is the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) demand that their team play in Kolkata for the semi-finals. Due to these preconditions imposed by the PCB, if both Pakistan and India reach the semi-finals then Team India will play in Kolkata. If Pakistan fails to qualify for the semi-finals, then India will play its semi-final match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
