Work- To shock the teams in the powerplay.
Shami is the most successful bowler of this season and so far he has got the maximum 26 wickets in 15 matches. A major contribution to his success is the lethal bowling of the powerplay. Out of these 26, Shami has taken 15 wickets in powerplay only, which is more than all other bowlers.
Difficulties will arise for Rohit
Last season too, Shami played a role in making Gujarat the champion on the basis of his accurate line in the powerplay. In the current season, he has proved more lethal on this front. One of the major reasons for Gujarat’s defeat against Chennai was Shami not getting a wicket in the powerplay. In such a situation, Mumbai will have to hope and try that Shami does not take wickets in the first 6 overs.
Looking at the way Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma’s form this season, Shami’s threat is high. In this season, Rohit has been dismissed inside the powerplay more than 10 times. Not only this, Rohit Sharma has been a victim of Shami twice in IPL. In such a situation, Gujarat and Shami will have a good chance to put Mumbai under pressure in the beginning.
