The England team, which won the ODI World Cup at home in 2019, was expected to defend its title in India. But this team, captained by Jos Buttler, could not even reach the semi-finals, leave alone defending the title. This team somehow managed to win three out of nine matches and qualify for the Champions Trophy to be held in 2025. After the World Cup, big changes have been seen in the England team. England has to tour West Indies. The England and Wales Cricket Board has announced the ODI and T20 teams for this tour, in which major changes have been made. Nine players from the team that was selected for the World Cup have been dropped from the ODI team.
Only six players from the England team playing the World Cup have been retained for the ODI series. Among these players, Captain Butler, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Liam Livingston, Gus Ettingson, Braydon Carse have been retained in the team. The remaining players have been dropped. In the statement issued by the ECB, it has been said that six players have been retained in the ODI team but there is no information about the players who have not been selected.
These players are out
Among the players who have gone out, the name of all-rounder Ben Stokes, who withdrew his decision to retire from ODIs before the World Cup on the request of Captain Butler, is also included. Apart from him, wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow has also been dropped. Apart from them, names of openers David Malan, Joe Root, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid, Reece Topley are also included. David Willey had already decided to retire after the ODI World Cup, hence his name is also not in this team. The new faces who have come are Josh Tong and John Turner who have made their Test debut. Both of them have got a place in both ODI and T20 teams.
