In cricket, a batsman can get out in many ways. Everyone knows about most of these. The batsman is mainly bowled, caught out, run out, LBW, Stup out, but apart from these, there can be another way out in cricket and this is time out. That is, after the fall of a wicket, if the second batsman does not come on the field in the stipulated time, then he can be given a time out. On this day i.e. on 20 December, for the first time in first class cricket in India, someone was given time out.
This player was Hemulal Yadav. He used to play cricket for Tripura. In 1997, the Ranji Trophy season was going on and Tripura was facing Odisha. The match was played in Cuttack. In this match Yadav was given time out and he became the first player to be given time out in first class cricket of India.
game played on the last day of the match
It was the fourth and last day of this match between Tripura and Odisha. Eight wickets of Tripura had fallen for just 198 runs. Odisha bowler Ajay Barik dismissed Tripura’s ninth wicket by dismissing Vijay Bhatnagar. Yadav had to come as the next batsman. But he could not come on time and on Odisha’s appeal, the umpires gave him time out.
With this, Yadav became the first Indian to be timed out in first class cricket. While Yadav was sitting wearing a pad, but his slight carelessness got such a record written in his name which no one would want.
Why was Yadav delayed?
Now the question is why Yadav was delayed. In fact, as soon as Tripura’s ninth wicket fell, Sankara Dendapani and KN Raghavan, who were umpiring in that match, announced drinks. Yadav was sitting wearing pads, but having drinks, he kept talking to the team manager at the boundary. When the match resumed after the dricks, Yadav had to come but Yadav sat near the boundary and did not try to come towards the crease. Odisha appealed against it and the umpire created history by giving Yadav out.
