Babar wrote, “I remember well when I was invited by the PCB to captain Pakistan in 2019. In the last four years, I have seen many ups and downs on and off the field, but with all my heart and passion I aimed to maintain the pride of Pakistan in the cricket world. Becoming the number one team in white-ball cricket was the result of the combined efforts of the players, coaches and management, but I would also like to thank the cricket fans of Pakistan because they supported me a lot in this journey.”

Babar also did not perform very well in the World Cup 2023 and in nine matches he scored only 320 runs at an average of 40. However, he remained the third highest run scorer for Pakistan. Pakistan lost five out of nine matches played in the tournament and won only four. He finished the tournament in fifth place with eight points.
