Asian Games 2023: Rituraj’s team will play quarter finals directly

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced the team for the Asian Games 2023 to be held in China. This team, captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad, will directly participate in the quarter-finals. The team will be given direct entry into the last eight on the basis of ranking. While a total of 18 teams will participate in the men’s tournament.

India will have the advantage of being the top ranked team in the Asian Games. All teams will be seeded on the basis of ICC T20 International (T20I) by June 1, 2023. A total of 18 teams will participate in the men’s tournament and the same number of matches will be played. All matches will be held here at the cricket ground of Zhejiang University of Technology.

The schedule of the Asian Games to be held in September-October also falls in the middle of the World Cup. In such a situation, the BCCI has selected a second-class team for this. The team has stars like Rinku Singh, Prabhsimran and Shivam Dubey. Till the announcement of the team, it was believed that it would be given in the hands of Shikhar Dhawan. But Rituraj Gaikwad was selected to lead in the Asian Games. Due to this, Shikhar’s fans have definitely got disappointed.

BCCI sending team for the first time

It is not that cricket is being played for the first time in the Asian Games. Even before this, cricket was included in these games twice. But the BCCI neither sent the men’s team nor the women’s team. In the years 2010 and 2014 also, cricket was included in the Asian Games. In 2010, the gold medal was won by Bangladesh in men and Pakistan in women. At the same time, in 2014, Sri Lanka in men and Pakistan once again won gold in women. The Indian team is going to participate in the Games for the first time. In such a situation, everyone has hopes from the young team that they will definitely bring a medal.
