Actually, former India fast bowler Ajit Agarkar can become the new chairman of the BCCI Selection Committee.
After failing to land any high-profile name for the chief selector’s post for the past two terms, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to make its wish come true. Actually, former India fast bowler Ajit Agarkar can become the new chairman of the BCCI Selection Committee. Agarkar was leading for the last two times. However, he withdrew his name from it.
At the same time, he has parted ways with the IPL franchise Delhi Capitals. After which it is being said that his becoming the chief selector is absolutely certain. On this the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) will start the interview from 1st July (Saturday).
Let us tell you that the post of Chief Selector is lying vacant since Chetan Sharma stepped down after the TV sting. In this regard, the BCCI had posted an advertisement last week. After two T20 World Cup defeats and two WTC finals, the BCCI wants someone with experience in the T20 format to challenge the team management’s decision in case of difference of opinion. With World Cup 2023 being the most important tournament, BCCI wants to complete the formalities before Asia Cup 2023 in August.

Having played 26 Tests, 191 ODIs and 4 T20Is, Ajit Agarkar is by far the most experienced candidate. All the four members in the current selection committee have international experience of 55 international games in total. While Agarkar has also played 42 IPL matches.
Meanwhile, a BCCI official told InsideSport, “The CAC has the right to choose a selector who can stand up to the high-profile team management when there is a difference of opinion.”
If Agarkar is appointed, the two selectors from West Zone will be Agarkar first and Salil Ankola second. Since Ajit Agarkar has played more Tests than Shiv Sunder Das, he will automatically be promoted to the role of chief selector.
