The BCCI Women’s Premier League 2023 is about to start from March 4. Five teams are going to participate in the first season of the league. All the five teams have announced the names of the captains. The captains of three of the five teams are Australian while two teams have got Indian captains. (AFP)
Royal Challengers Bangalore was the first to announce the name of their captain. He has chosen Team India’s star batsman Smriti Mandhana as his captain. Smriti was the most expensive player sold in the auction, for which RCB spent Rs 3.40 crore. Smriti is also the vice-captain of T20 India. (RCB)
Mumbai Indians have chosen Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur as their captain. Mumbai had bought Harman for one crore 80 lakh rupees. Team India made it to the finals of the T20 World Cup 2020 under his captaincy, also took India to the finals of the Commonwealth Games, while this year also the team reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. Australia’s wicket-keeper batsman Alyssa Healy was bought by UP Warriors for just Rs 70 lakhs, though then they gave Healy the captaincy. In the T20 World Cup, Healy scored 189 runs in five matches at an average of 47.25 and a strike rate of 115.95. Healy is a great batsman but he does not have much captaincy experience. The captaincy of Gujarat Giants is in the hands of Australia’s Beth Mooney. Gujarat joined this player by spending two crore rupees.
