There are elections in five states of the country from next month. The situation has been cleared by the Election Commission regarding the dates of voting, but despite this the date was changed in Punjab. Now in Manipur too, the Congress party will write a letter to the Election Commission to change the date. Manipur Congress will write to the Election Commission seeking re-schedulement of the date for the first phase of polling for the assembly elections in the state. Let us tell you that the voting in Manipur is to be held in two phases. The first is on February 27 and the second phase is on March 3.

Let us tell you that out of the 60 assembly seats in Manipur that will go to the polls, 20 are ST seats in hill districts, which are Christian-dominated constituencies. Tribal bodies in Manipur, including student organizations, have raised the demand for changing the date of the first phase of polling.
The ECI has already postponed the Punjab Assembly elections till February 20 after parties in the state requested the Election Commission as several people from the state are likely to visit Varanasi on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas.
