New Delhi: The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday informed that in the last six years, there have been more than 10,000 encounters between the police and the accused in the state, in which 63 accused were killed, while one policeman was martyred and 1,708 accused were injured.
According to the data released by the government, since 2017, Meerut has topped the state with the highest number of 3,152 encounters.
According to the news agency ANI, during this time a brave policeman was martyred during the police encounter, while 401 policemen were injured. A total of 5,967 accused have been arrested during the operation of the UP Police.
According to the statement, the UP Police has been involved in 10,713 encounters since 2017, of which the maximum 3,152 were carried out by the Meerut Police. After this, Agra Police carried out 1,844 encounters, in which 4654 criminals were arrested, while 14 accused were killed and 55 policemen were injured.
According to this, Bareilly Police was involved in 1,497 encounters, in which 3,410 accused were arrested, while 7 died. During this, 437 accused were injured. In these operations, 296 brave policemen were injured, while 1 was martyred.
The statement said, ‘As soon as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took over the reins of the state, improving the law and order situation in the state became his priority. His government adopted a policy of zero tolerance against mafia and criminals and intensified action against such elements to strengthen the law and order of the state.
