New Delhi: The agitation in the state has increased only after the announcement of the dates of the UP assembly elections. On Tuesday, former UP minister Swami Prasad Maurya resigned. A warrant for arrest was issued against Swami Prasad Maurya the day after he resigned. Maurya has been ordered to appear on January 24 by Sultanpur’s MP-MLA court in an old case.
Swami Prasad Maurya is accused of making objectionable remarks on deities. This allegation was leveled against him only in 2014. Let us tell you that in the year 2014, Swami Prasad Maurya was the General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition, during which Maurya had given a controversial statement about the gods and goddesses. Seven years ago, a case was registered against Maurya for inciting religious sentiments.
Swami Prasad Maurya is a well-known leader in UP politics. Maurya was a cabinet minister in the Yogi government. But he has announced to leave the BJP, accusing it of neglecting the backward Dalits. Hints have been received that Maurya will join the Samajwadi Party. He has spoken to Akhilesh Yadav many times from the back door. After the cabinet minister Swami Prasad Maurya in the Yogi government, three more MLAs have left the BJP on Tuesday.
Swami Prasad Maurya was once close to BSP chief Mayawati and a vocal face of the party. Maurya was not only made a minister in every BSP government in 1997, 2002 and 2007, but was also the leader of the opposition every time the BSP was out of power. He was even made the national general secretary of the BSP, effectively making him number two in the party hierarchy after Mayawati.
