New Delhi: In its latest list of 17 more candidates for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded former ED joint director Rajeshwar Singh from Sarojini Nagar. BJP has not given tickets to Assembly Speaker Hriday Narayan Dixit and Women Welfare Minister Swati Singh from Sarojini Nagar.
BJP has given ticket to state law minister Brajesh Pathak from Lucknow Cantt while Ashutosh Shukla from Bhagwantnagar assembly constituency. Party MP Rita Bahuguna Joshi, who had earlier demanded ticket for son Mayank Joshi from Lucknow Cantt seat, said, “I respect the party’s decision.”
Neeraj Bora from Lucknow North and Chandrika Prasad Upadhyay from Chitrakoot have been given tickets.
Meanwhile, former ED joint director and now BJP leader Rajeshwar Singh told ANI that he will reform governance and continue his work against the mafia. BJP announced his name for the upcoming UP elections on Monday from Sarojini Nagar assembly constituency.
Rajeshwar Singh said, “We will contribute to the governance and the investigation initiated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He is doing a great job against the mafia. We need to support him. Also, we have to control the growing communalism. It is needed. Take forward BJP’s ideology of working for the future of the country.”
Just a day after resigning from the service of the Government of India, on the questions being raised on Rajeshwar Singh getting a BJP ticket, he said, “There is no question of political patronage. BJP is a big party. Here ticket on the basis of merit. are given.”
In his letter announcing the VRS, Rajeshwar Singh had mentioned that “during his tenure in the ED he uncovered and investigated several scams of national impact and public importance.”
His letter further said, “This includes investigations conducted under my aegis (2G spectrum allocation scam, AgustaWestland helicopter deal, Aircel Maxis scam, Amrapali scam, Nokia Ponzi scam, Gomti riverfront scam), in which several white-collar criminals were sent to jail.”
On Monday, Singh announced that his request for Voluntary Retirement (VRS) from Government of India service has been approved. Rajeshwar Singh was earlier working in Uttar Pradesh Police.
