Trinamool Congress protests in Guwahati hotel, rebel MLAs are staying, BJP is on target

Guwahati : Trinamool Congress held a massive protest this morning outside the hotel in Guwahati where the Shiv Sena rebels are staying. The protest was led by Trinamool Congress’s Assam chief Ripun Bora. A large number of policemen and security personnel tried to control the protesters.

The protesters raised slogans accusing the ruling BJP of Assam of using all its resources in enabling a Shiv Sena coup to topple the Uddhav Thackeray government in Maharashtra.

The Trinamool Congress alleged that the state government had done nothing to alleviate the suffering of the people affected by the heavy floods in the state. More than 55 lakh people have been affected by the floods caused by the rising waters of the Brahmaputra and Barak rivers. Since May, 89 people have died in the floods.

The protest outside the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati became a sideshow of the Maharashtra coalition’s drama involving rebels, who have been at the hotel since Wednesday, preparing for a coup in the coalition-led Shiv Sena.

Supporters of Eknath Shinde claim that around 40 MLAs are in the hotel, achieving the figure of 37 required for rebels to split the party without risking disqualification under the anti-defection law.

The BJP has officially said that it has nothing to do with the crisis and it is an internal problem of Shiv Sena.

However, sources say that the party is waiting for the Shiv Sena rebels to gather in sufficient numbers for the next phase, which is being seen as BJP’s Operation Lotus in Maharashtra. It is being said that the Sena rebels and the BJP will run a new government by toppling the Uddhav Thackeray-led coalition.
