The ruling DMK-led secular Progressive Alliance has sent a memorandum to President Draupadi Murmu requesting the sacking of Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi. The memorandum states that Ravi incites communal hatred and is a threat to the peace of the state.
New Delhi/Chennai: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Tuesday said the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) led by it has sent a memorandum to President Draupadi Murmu requesting Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi to be “sacked”.
The ruling coalition in the state has been at loggerheads with the governor over various issues.
In a memorandum sent to the President’s Office on November 2, 2022, the ruling coalition has raised several issues related to the Governor, including the pending NEET Bill.
Ravi and the MK Stalin-led government have been at loggerheads over several issues including NEET, including Ravi’s recent remarks on the “delay” in handing over the October 23 car blast probe to the NIA.
He said that all acts do not suit the Governor. This memorandum has been signed by the MPs of the SPA.
In the nine-page memorandum, the MPs said, “Shri RN Ravi has clearly violated the oath taken under Article 159 to protect the Constitution and the law and to dedicate himself to the service and good of the people of Tamil Nadu.” . Apart from this, he has been inciting communal hatred and is a threat to the peace of the state… so by his conduct and actions RN Ravi has proved that he is not fit for the constitutional post of governor and he should be dismissed immediately.
According to the Indian Express, the memorandum states that instead of forwarding the NEET Bill to Rashtrapati Bhavan, Ravi “grabbed the powers of the Hon’ble President and questioned the wisdom of the legislature and returned the Bill, which conferred powers conferred on the Governor”. I am not.’
The ruling coalition MPs further said, “Due to their behaviour, the Tamil Nadu Assembly had to be called for a special session and the Assembly re-introduced the NEET Bill and sent it again to the Governor.” This shows that the governor is acting against the collective will expressed by the state assembly. All these actions are indecent of the Governor.
“Tamil Nadu is a paradise where people of different religions, languages and castes live in peace,” the memorandum said. Tamil Nadu Governor Thiru (Shri) RN Ravi has developed an unfortunate tendency to publicly acknowledge his lack of faith in this country’s secular ideals and often engages in divisive rhetoric. It is a matter of shame for our government which is highly committed to the secular ethos of this country.
It was written, ‘Ravi’ was freely promoting dangerous, divisive, religious rhetoric in public, which is indecent for a governor. His speeches are given with a deliberate intention to spread hatred and create communal unrest among the people. Recently he made a comment that ‘India is dependent on one religion like the rest of the world.’ This statement is an insult to the Constitution of India. India is dependent on its constitution and laws, not on any religion.
The signatories of the memorandum alleged, “The framers of the constitution could never have imagined a situation where a governor openly opposes the policy of the elected state government or indefinitely delays the assent of a law passed by the legislature or Work against secularism. Such a situation can be called a dictatorship and such a situation continues in Tamil Nadu.
Stating that the governor should be free from any political likes and dislikes or partisan politics or expectations of appointments after his term is over, the memorandum said his focus should be towards the welfare of the people.
The MPs said in the memorandum, “Ravi forgets that he has not won any election in Tamil Nadu so that he should decide what is right for the people here.” Clearly, Thiru RN Ravi has violated the oath taken under Article 159 to protect the Constitution and the law and to dedicate himself to the service and well being of the people of Tamil Nadu.
