Surajgarh Legislative Assembly Seat
Along with the ruling Congress in Rajasthan, many other parties including the Bharatiya Janata Party have also started campaigning. There is political turmoil in Jhunjhunu district also. Voting will be conducted here on 25th November. There are 7 assembly seats under the district, out of which 6 seats are held by Congress and one seat is with Bharatiya Janata Party. Surajgarh assembly seat is with BJP.
How many voters, how much population
Talking about Surajgarh Assembly seat in the 2018 elections, 19 candidates had presented their challenge here, in which the contest became triangular. BJP’s Subhash Punia got 79,913 votes while Congress’s Shravan Kumar got 76,488 votes. Karmaveer Yadav of Bahujan Samaj Party spoiled the work of Congress by securing 30,948 votes against Shravan Kumar.
Due to the excellent performance of BSP, Subhash Punia of BJP won by a margin of 3,425 votes in a tough contest that lasted till the end. In the then elections, there were a total of 2,58,214 voters in Surajgarh assembly seat, in which the number of male voters was 1,33,505 and the number of female voters was 1,24,709. Of these, a total of 1,93,289 (75.0%) voters cast their votes. In Surajgarh assembly seat, less votes were cast in favor of NOTA and only 392 (0.2%) people voted.
How was the political history?
Talking about the political history of Surajgarh assembly seat, this seat has mostly been with BJP since 1990 till now. In 1990, Babulal of Janata Dal won. Independent Sunder Lal won in 1993. Then in 1998, Hanuman Prasad of Congress won the election and became MLA.

After many efforts, it was in 2003 that BJP got its first victory from Surajgarh seat. But in 2008, Shravan Kumar of Congress wrested this seat from BJP. In 2013, BJP’s Santosh Ahlawat won from here, avenging the previous defeat. In the 2018 elections, BJP’s Subhash Punia won from here for the party. Now BJP will aim to score a hat-trick of victory on this seat.
