New Delhi: Political turmoil is in full swing regarding the elections to be held in five states including Punjab. In this episode, Aam Aadmi Party is going to announce its chief ministerial candidate in Punjab today. Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal will announce the name of AAP’s CM face in Punjab by holding a press conference at 12 noon. Earlier on January 13, Arvind Kejriwal had announced a poll for his party’s chief ministerial candidate.
AAP leader Raghav Chadha said in Chandigarh, “We have received more than 15 lakh responses through SMS, voice calls and WhatsApp messages for the chief ministerial face. IT team is analyzing every call and message. Kejriwal will announce the name of the chief ministerial candidate on Tuesday.
After 4 days of consultation, the Aam Aadmi Party claims that more than 21 lakh people have given their opinion for who should be the chief ministerial candidate. According to information received from sources, Arvind Kejriwal can declare Bhagwant Mann, the president of his party’s Punjab unit, as the chief ministerial candidate of Punjab.
Let us tell you that Bhagwant Mann is the head of Aam Aadmi Party’s Punjab unit and is an MP from Sangrur Lok Sabha seat of Punjab. Bhagwant Mann made his mark as a comedian and became very famous in Punjab. After this Bhagwant Mann joined politics in 2012 and joined Manpreet Badal’s Punjab People Party. In the 2012 Punjab assembly elections, he contested from Lehra assembly seat of Sangrur, but could not get success. After this, in 2014, Bhagwant Mann joined Aam Aadmi Party and contested from Sangrur Lok Sabha seat on Aam Aadmi Party ticket. Bhagwant Mann won the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat by more than 2 lakh votes and reached the Parliament. After this, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Bhagwant Mann again won the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat by more than 1 lakh votes.
Significantly, the 117 assembly seats of Punjab will go to the polls on February 20. Counting of votes will be done on March 10. The Election Commission on Monday accepted the request of political parties to conduct polling in Punjab on February 20 instead of February 14 in view of Guru Ravidas Jayanti.
