In October last year, Malik, the former governor of Jammu and Kashmir, had said at an event in Rajasthan that when he was the governor of Jammu and Kashmir, he was offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore for clearing two files. Both deals were cancelled.
Jammu: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday started investigation into allegations of bribe offer by former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik. Malik had claimed that when he was the governor of Jammu and Kashmir, he was offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore for clearing two files.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been given permission to probe the allegations leveled by former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik.
Malik is currently the Governor of Meghalaya.
Let us tell you that in a program organized in Rajasthan on October 17 last year, former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik had said, ‘After going to Kashmir, two files (for approval) were brought before me. One belonged to Ambani and the other to an RSS man who was a minister in the then PDP-BJP government led by Mehbooba Mufti and was very close to the prime minister.
He had said, ‘Secretaries of both the departments told me that this unethical practice is connected, so both the deals were cancelled. The secretaries told me that you will get Rs 150-150 crore for clearing each file, but I told them that I had brought five pairs of kurta-pyjama and will take them back only.
He had further said, ‘One of my secretaries told me that in both the deals I would get Rs 150 crore each. But I sought time from the Prime Minister and apprised him of the scam. I told them that they (offers of bribes) claim to be your close confidants. I should appreciate the PM, because he told me not to compromise on corruption.
He had further said, ‘Corruption was rampant in Kashmir, where 5 per cent commission runs in other parts of the country, while in Kashmir there was 15 per cent commission. But I am happy that there was no major corruption during my tenure.
Lt Governor Sinha said, ‘If someone sitting on such a high position is saying something like this, then it should be investigated. We have given permission to CBI to investigate both the charges. Sinha said that he took cognizance of the allegations and decided that the truth should come out.
