Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh has a special identity in the politics of the state. The district has given two chief ministers (Sunder Lal Patwa and Shivraj Singh Chauhan). There are 4 assembly seats under the district, which also includes Ichhawar seat. Ichhawar area is about 60 kilometers away from the capital Bhopal. This seat is also called the stronghold of BJP and here also Congress has to struggle a lot to win.

How many voters, how much population
Talking about the 2018 assembly elections, there was a contest between a total of 14 candidates on Ichhawar assembly seat in which there was a decisive battle between Congress and BJP. BJP’s Karan Singh Verma got 86,958 votes in the election while Congress’s Shailendra Patel got 71,089 votes. Karan Singh Verma won the election by a margin of 15,869 votes.
In the then elections, there were a total of 1,96,795 voters in Ichhawar seat, in which the number of male voters was 1,02,610 and the number of female voters was 94,182. Of these, a total of 1,70,838 (87.7%) voters cast their votes. 1,721 (0.9%) votes were cast in favor of NOTA.
How was the political history?
Talking about the political history of Ichhawar assembly seat, this seat is considered a stronghold of BJP. Barring 2013, this seat has been held by BJP since 1985. Former Revenue Minister of the state Karan Singh Verma has won the elections here 7 times.

Senior BJP leader Karan Singh Verma was elected from here for the first time in 1985. Then he was elected in 1990, 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2018. Whereas after a long wait, in 2013, Congress finally got victory in the form of Shailendra Patel. But she lost again in the next election.
