New Delhi: Including Manipur, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Goa The election board has been completely laid. But before these elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party has suffered a major setback in Goa on Saturday. Let us inform that former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has left the party.
According to reports, BJP had refused to give ticket to Parsekar in this election. That’s why Parsekar had to take this step. BJP has fielded sitting MLA Dayanand Sopte from Mandrem assembly constituency. Sopte defeated Parsekar as a Congress candidate in the 2017 state elections, but joined the ruling party in 2019.
Let us inform that while announcing this on Saturday morning, Parsekar had told news agency ANI that- I will formally submit my resignation by this evening.
Before Parsekar, Utpal Parrikar, the son of former Defense Minister and former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, has also left the BJP due to lack of ticket. Utpal Parrikar will contest as an independent from his father’s seat Panaji.
Let us tell you that like every time, this time again voting will be held in one phase in Goa. Voting in Goa will be held on February 14. Whereas along with other states, votes will be counted here on March 10. The last time elections were held in Goa in a single phase in 2017.
Let us tell you that the term of the 40-seat Goa Legislative Assembly ends on March 15. The last assembly elections in the state were held in February 2017. Congress emerged as the single largest party by winning 17 seats, but it could not form the government. BJP won 13 seats and was successful in forming the government with the help of MGP, GFP and two independent MLAs. Manohar Parrikar became the Chief Minister of Goa, but after the death of Manohar Parrikar on 17 March 2019, Dr. Pramod Sawant was made the Chief Minister of the state.
