Panaji, Weeks after quitting the Congress, joining the Trinamool Congress and quitting it a day earlier without giving any reason, former Goa Congress working president Alecxo Reginaldo Lourenco on Monday hinted at rejoining his parent party. He has apologized to his supporters and well-wishers for the “mistake” of joining the Mamata Banerjee-led party ahead of next month’s assembly elections.
Talking to reporters, Lourenco said that he faced severe backlash after he decided to join Trinamool. He said, ‘I have fought for the people. I raised their issues in the assembly. I have worked for the people with all my heart and mind.
He said his supporters are apprehensive that joining Trinamool will invite an outside party to Goa which will split votes. Lourenco had resigned as an MLA and Congress member from Curtorim last December to join the Trinamool Congress. He was then the working president of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee. On Sunday, he resigned from Trinamool without assigning any reason.
Subsequently on Monday, he said that his decision to join the Mamata Banerjee-led party was a mistake and now he wants to be the person people trust. Speaking about his future, Lourenço said that his supporters have asked him to rejoin the Congress party. Let us inform that the voting in Goa is to be held on February 14.
