New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a new case against former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family members for allegedly taking land from candidates in exchange for jobs in Railways. Officials gave this information on Friday.

This alleged scam dates back to when RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Union Railway Minister in the United Progressive Alliance government.

Officials said that the CBI had registered a preliminary inquiry into the allegations, which has been converted into an FIR. After registering FIRs against Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, daughters Misa and Hema besides several candidates, the CBI on Friday morning conducted searches at 17 places in Delhi, Patna and Gopalganj.

Officials said the investigating agency has registered an FIR under section 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Section 120B deals with criminal conspiracy.

It is alleged that during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as Railway Minister from 2008 to 2009, many properties were given to the Yadav family, which were at prominent places, in exchange for jobs in the Railways.

This new case has been registered after Yadav was released on bail in the fodder scam case a few weeks ago. He was convicted in this case by the special court in Ranchi.

According to the Indian Express, Yadav and his family members are also facing trial in another alleged corruption case, where he is accused of favoring a private company in exchange for land at a prime location in Patna when he was the railway minister.

A charge sheet has already been filed against Yadav in this case popularly known as IRCTC scam. In 2018, the CBI had filed a chargesheet in the case against Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri and son Tejashwi Yadav.

The agency has alleged that Lalu, as railway minister during the UPA government, favored a company while awarding contracts for operation and maintenance of two IRCTC hotels. In return, his family got a large piece of land in Patna from the owners of the contract winning company at a nominal cost.

The agency had registered a case in July 2017 against five others, including Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri and son Tejashwi Yadav, and even searched 12 places, including the former Bihar chief minister’s residence in Patna.

The CBI has secured the contract for maintenance of IRCTC hotels, Sujata Hotels, its owners Vijay and Vinay Kochhar, former Union Minister and Lalu’s close aide Premchand Gupta, his wife Sarla, VK Asthana, then General Manager of IRCTC Group and RK Gogia, then Managing Director of IRCTC. Chargesheet was filed against director PK Goyal and director Rakesh Saxena and a company Lara Projects (through which land was allegedly arranged in lieu of contract).

According to the CBI, in 2006 as the Railway Minister, Lalu Yadav had allegedly favored Sujata Hotels for the maintenance of two IRCTC hotels in Ranchi and Puri. The CBI alleged that in return Rabri and Tejashwi were given prime property in Patna at throwaway prices.

The CBI has said that between 2004 and 2014, a conspiracy was hatched, whereby Indian Railways’ BNR hotels at Puri and Ranchi were first transferred to IRCTC and later leased to Sujata Hotels Pvt Ltd in Patna for operation and maintenance. given on.

“The allegation is that during this process the tender process was rigged and manipulated and conditions were changed to help the private party (Sujata Hotel),” the CBI said. In return, three acres of land in western Patna was given at a very low cost to Delight Marketing run by Sarla and Prem Chand Gupta and later between 2010 and 2014 this land was further given to Lara Projects, a company owned by Lalu Yadav’s family member. was transferred.

Meanwhile, RJD leaders and workers protested the ongoing CBI raids of party chief Lalu Yadav at several places, according to the Times of India.

RJD leader Alok Mehta said that this is an attempt to suppress a strong voice. “CBI’s direction and action is completely biased,” he said.

At the same time, Lalu Prasad’s brother Prabhunath Yadav said, ‘It is unfortunate that a sick person is being deliberately harassed in this way. It is well known who is behind this.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) took a jibe at the CBI and tweeted, ‘Tota hai, parrot ka kya.’ Significantly, during the previous UPA government, the Supreme Court had called the CBI a ‘parrot’ of political masters.

The RJD said raids were conducted countless times in the so-called railway-related scam but nothing was found.

RJD Siwan unit tweeted, “Innumerable raids have been conducted in the so-called scam related to railways and nothing has been found. Respected Lalu ji was the Railway Minister till 2004-09. Today, even after 13 years, if the CBI has to raid, then you can guess what a poor level of investigation agency CBI is. The Lalu family is not going to bow down and be afraid.

In another tweet, the party said, ‘The Lalu ji who gave a profit of 90,000 crores to the Railways, Lalu, who took recruitment in the railways for lakhs of youth, made the porters permanent, that Lalu is being raided after 15 years. And the union and Modi-Shah who sold railways, sold stations, stifled 72000 posts are becoming honest.

The party said, ‘They do not have the ability to give jobs, nor do they have the understanding and ability to give jobs, so they are conducting raids on those who give jobs and those who talk about giving jobs. How many raids will you do, you fools!’

The party said, ‘The only leader of the country whom Modi-RSS is so afraid of, that another fake case was filed to scare the ailing Lalu ji who is suffering from many serious diseases. RJD will give a befitting reply to this dictatorship.
