Dehradun: A court in Haridwar in Uttarakhand on Sunday sent hardline Hindutva leader Yeti Narasimhanand, who organized the ‘Dharma Sansad’ recently, to 14-day judicial custody. He has been arrested in two separate cases.
The first case is of derogatory remarks against women and the second case is related to giving hate speech against Muslims in ‘Dharma Sansad’.
Rakinder Singh Kathait, SHO of Haridwar police station said that Narsimhanand has been sent to Roshanabad jail. He said that a case has been registered against the accused under sections 295 (A) and 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Narasimhanand, the head priest of the Dasna temple in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on the night of January 15 from Sarbananda Ghat on the banks of the Ganges, where he was involved in a ‘satyagraha’ to protest the arrest of another accused in the Dharma Sansad case, Jitendra Narayan Tyagi alias Waseem Rizvi. ‘ Was doing.
Rizvi, who changed his name to Tyagi after converting to Hinduism, is also in jail.
In connection with the first case, Uttarakhand Police issued a public statement saying that they have been arrested for making derogatory remarks against women.
According to The Hindu, Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar has confirmed that Narasimhanand has also been arrested in connection with his hate speech given in the Parliament of Religions. In the Dharma Sansad, Narasimhanand had allegedly called for the massacre of Muslims.
DGP Kumar said Narasimhanand, one of the organizers of Dharma Sansad, was also named in a separate FIR registered on January 12, in which he was charged under Section 509 of the IPC for making derogatory and indecent remarks against women.
He said that Narasimhanand was served a notice on January 14 under section 41A of CrPC (in which police can arrest without warrant), in which he was told that whenever the police called for investigation, he would have to come.
DGP Kumar said that when Narasimhanand did not heed the notice, he was arrested in both the cases – hate speech in the Parliament of Religions and derogatory remarks against women.
He told, ‘We had demanded from the court to take him on judicial custody, on which he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.’
A senior police officer said that there was no demand to take Narasimhanand into police custody as his custody was not required at this stage of the investigation.
According to the Indian Express, Haridwar City Circle Officer Shekhar Suyal told that recently a woman named Ruchika had filed a complaint against Narasimhanand that she had made objectionable remarks against women of a particular community.
He further said that the complainant alleged that in some social media posts, Narasimhanand was making these derogatory remarks while talking to the media on January 4. The arrest of last January 15 was mainly due to the same FIR. However, when we produced him in the court on Sunday, we showed his arrest in this case as well as in the ‘Dharma Sansad’ case.
On January 15, Suyal had also told that an FIR has also been lodged against Narasimhanand by a journalist. According to Suyal, the journalist asked some difficult questions to Narasimhanand, due to which the journalist was allegedly scuffled after an altercation.
